Following the wave of resignations from his board of directors, Boris Johnson announces new appointments at No. 10 Downing Street: Steve Barclay to become prime minister’s chief of staff, journalist Guto Harri joins Johnson’s team as communications director. Harri had been Johnson’s spokesperson and chief of staff during his first term as Mayor of London.
“This week I promised a change, so that we can move forward with the work that the British people have called us to do,” said the premier. “We must continue our recovery to emerge from the pandemic, help hundreds of thousands of people find work and fulfill our ambitious agenda to level up the entire country, improving opportunities for people regardless of their origin.”
Further announcements are expected in the coming days. Johnson lost five assistants within 24 hours as a result of the Partygate scandal.
