The seventh round of the season, which will take place this weekend in the narrow streets of the Principality of Monaco, could provide the ideal opportunity for theAlphaTauri to be able to redeem themselves from a difficult period in terms of results. The team from Faenza, in fact, has just returned from a 10th place obtained in Spain by Yuki Tsunoda, with the previous Japanese in the top-10 at Imola and in the first GP in Bahrain. A placement with points more than those obtained by your teammate Pierre Gaslytemporarily 13th in the general classification and reached the top ten only in Saudi Arabia and Australia.
A moment of crisis therefore for the French driver, who hopes to be able to recover in Monaco, while recognizing all the complexities of a test like the one scheduled for the weekend which will start tomorrow with the first free practice session: “Monaco is a historic icon of Formula 1 – explained number 10 of the AlphaTauri – it may not be the most exciting race of the year, but in terms of difficulty it is one of the most complex, if not the most difficult. Driving to the limit on this track requires maximum concentration, and it’s a real challenge that I really appreciate. I like the super complicated track that evolves a lot from session to session. You are always on the edge, a few millimeters from the barriers, and it is something that gives you a real adrenaline rush. This year, with these very wide cars, it might be nearly impossible to overtake. But from a driving point of view it remains one of my favorite tracks. My real home race is the French GP, but of course in Monaco I find a lot of support from the fans and there is always a magical atmosphere in this event ”.
Those who want to draw on the past in Monte Carlo, on the other hand, are Yuki Tsunodalooking for confirmation after Barcelona but at the same time eager to forget the negative performance of last year: “I remember my first Monegasque weekend, it was quite difficult – commented – this time I’ll have a better idea of how to go faster and faster and stay focused between sessions. The goal is to get into Q3 and then get some points. The track is very special, you can’t afford any mistakes, because here every burr can cost you really dearly. You need to focus a lot on single lap performance, because qualifying will be crucial in this race. Monaco is a great classic on the calendar and cannot be compared to any other track. It is never boring, although sometimes the races can be very different from those held on modern circuits. Overtaking is difficult, but in general it is a really exciting event ”.
