There is satisfaction in the house Alpha Tauri at the end of the qualifications of Jeddah. with Pierre Gasly who finished on Saturday in sixth position and Yuki Tsunoda in eighthto. The two placings can give a glimmer of hope in the Alpine appeal for fifth place among the constructors (the French are ahead by 25 points), given that Ocon will start ninth and Alonso thirteenth. Chief Engineer Jonathan Eddols confirmed: “Both the team and the riders did a fantastic job today in qualifying and I think it must be said that they managed to get the most out of the package in rather complicated circumstances, especially when they were still trying to understand the behavior of the tires on this new circuit. From Friday it was clear that the car was fast, but we struggled to get the best lap at the start of each run. Our team reacted well and both riders did a fantastic job. We lined up on our favorite side of the grid, with both cars in the Top 10 and we will have medium tires at the start. We have made a series of changes to the car to improve the performance in the long runs, so tonight we will work on the strategy and aim to bring home as many points as possible ”.
Pierre Gasly he has a bit of regret because he is just 0 ″ 002 behind Sergio Perez and just 0 ″ 074 from Charles Leclerc’s fourth place: “It was fantastic to be able to qualify in the top six again today. But this time around it was a bit more difficult, I didn’t feel completely comfortable in the car and struggled with balance throughout the session. I had to work hard while we went into qualifying, but I managed to put it all together and I consider myself satisfied with my lap. It is a bit frustrating to have remained behind Sergio for only two thousandths of a second, practically nothing, but in the end there remains a great starting position to try to score points tomorrow ”.
Yuki Tsunoda he is not entirely satisfied with his position on the grid: “I have mixed feelings for this day. I think my performance in Q1 and Q2 was great and I am really satisfied. Unfortunately, however, on my last lap in Q3 I found some traffic and lost a lot of time. I think I could have started later on the grid tomorrow and at the moment this thought is a bit frustrating. But there are still many positive aspects to focus on, in particular having passed Q2 on Medium tires: this will allow me to start tomorrow with the same compound as everyone else around me. This is a really nice track to drive, so I can’t wait to face the race and we hope to be able to cross the finish line with some points ”.
