The leaders of the G7 member countries will hold an extraordinary meeting in order to discuss the consequences of missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine. About this on Monday, October 10, the representative of the government of Germany, Steffen Hebeshtreit.
The meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 11, and will be organized as a video conference. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will speak as a guest.
According to Hebeshtreit, also one of the topics of the upcoming discussion will be the energy issue and related changes in pricing.
He also added that the G7 does not plan to touch upon the topic of military assistance to Kyiv, since there are other formats for this, which include more participants.
Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian leader said he had agreed with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on an urgent G7 meeting at which he planned to speak. He also said that he coordinated his actions with Polish President Andrzej Duda.
At the same time, the director of the Institute for Peacekeeping Initiatives and Conflict Studies, Denis Denisov, in a conversation with Izvestia, suggested that Zelensky plans to ask for additional support for Ukraine at the G7. At the same time, Denisov stressed that “the G7 is not an organization that makes some kind of decisions that are binding on all countries of the world.”
On Monday morning, the Ukrainian media began to report explosions in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. A number of settlements were left without electricity and water supply. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal noted that eleven important infrastructure facilities were damaged in eight regions of the country.
Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that, at the suggestion of the Russian Defense Ministry, a massive strike with precision-guided weapons was inflicted on the military and energy infrastructure of Ukraine. The head of state stressed that Kyiv tried to carry out many acts of sabotage, including undermining the Turkish Stream gas pipeline. In addition, the Ukrainian special services are behind the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge.
