With almost imminent releases, the most promising action films of the coming months, such as Deadpool and Wolverine, they have already started the advertising machine. Today, Furiosa is the one who brings us interesting news. In an interview with Total Film, the film's director, Doug Mitchell, revealed many interesting facts about the production, including that originally the film was planned to be an anime.
How could such a drastic turn take place? To start, Mitchell said that The Furiosa script existed for 15 yearsseveral years before Mad Max: Fury Road, a film that was released in 2015 and which Doug Mitchell also directed.
According to Mitchell, this version of the script went through several rewrites, as it was previously extremely different. To begin with, the title was The Peach, while the direction would be carried out by the legendary Mahiro Maeda.
Mahiro Maeda is one of the biggest names in the industry, as He worked on works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, where he designed two of the Angels, and in Ghibli films, as the animator of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. He even helped Tarantino with the animated scenes for Kill Bill Vol. 1.
However, the fact that Mahiro Maeda did not direct Furiosa does not mean that the Mad Max franchise completely missed out on his enormous talent, as worked as a conceptual art designer for Mad Max: Fury Road. Still, we hope that one day we get to see this universe's version of him.
