All the Opel, from sedans Race, new Astra And Insignia to SUVs Mokka And new Grandland are equipped with full LED matrix headlights. With the entry into force ofwinter time the days are getting shorter and motorists will have to get used to drive more frequently in the dark, for example even in the simple afternoon commute back from work. And when the lighthouse is powerful there night vision greatly improves!
Full LED Opel headlights
With the new LED technologies applied to the headlights such as those of “Full led” proposed by Opel, facing the darkness on a night trip is no longer a problem. The matrix headlights IntelliLux LED anti-glare are able to automatically adapt the light beam to the traffic situation and the prevailing context.
In particular, Opel Insignia, Grandland and the new Opel Astra go further, thanks to the second generation IntelliLux LED Pixel system, consisting of ben 168 LED elements divided between the two headlights, for a precision that is modeled on the basis of the continuous movement of the car.
But let’s try to understand why a full LED headlight works better than a traditional one. Recall that the LED (Light Emitting Diode or light emitting diode) is an optoelectronic device that exploits the ability of semiconductors to produce photons through a spontaneous emission phenomenon.
How do full led headlights work? IntelliLux LED matrix?
The light beam of the IntelliLux LED matrix headlights is distinctly superior to that of projectors allo xenon or conventional systems because it is more accurate and more powerful.
As soon as the car leaves the urban context, the matrix headlights automatically activate the high beam mode and continuously adjust the length and distribution of the light cone, regardless of whether an Opel Corsa, Astra or Insignia is traveling on the motorway, driving down country roads or taking a bend.
Depending on the model, 8, 16 or 32 LED segments they adapt quickly and automatically to the prevailing traffic situation. Single LEDs can be turned off within milliseconds, so that the dark street can be illuminated without the risk of dazzle drivers of cars traveling in the opposite direction.
LED matrix headlights as they go cornering
In the LED matrix headlights, to further improve visibility when dealing with curves with high beams engineers have added a new feature to this second generation of IntelliLux LED matrix headlights.
The luminous intensity of the innermost matrix segments increases according to the steering angle, to increase the illumination of the curve. Each headlight IntelliLux LED it is also equipped with a dazzling headlight which increases the illumination up to about 400 meters.
The driver is then able to detect the presence of animals crossing at a greater distance, in an area that was previously immersed in darkness – particularly in the autumn period, this feature greatly increases safety when driving country roads early in the morning or in the evening.
2nd generation Pixel LED matrix headlights
THE Opel Insignia IntelliLux LED Pixel adaptive headlights, Grandland And Astra they are second generation and are gifted by 168 LED elements, 84 per projector. The large number of continuously reacting LED elements results in a seamless adaptation. Oncoming or preceding traffic comes “cut out” precisely from the light beam.
In particular, the technology Pixel Light provides a further improvement of the highway function. In the curves to the left, the light shines more on the left, improving the driver’s visibility in the lane, while on the right there is enough light for the driver to see, for example, the road signs. In curves to the right, the light shines more to the right, in order to avoid glare of the oncoming traffic.
Full LED IntelliLux headlights on the Opel range
Full LED headlights with numerous automatic functions are also available as standard on the Opel Grandland. The new Mokka also features a Full LED system consisting of headlights, daytime running lights, turn signals and LED taillights as standard.
Opel Crossland is available with optional Adaptive Full LED headlights, with cornering light, high beam assistance and auto leveling, all integrated into theOpel Vizor, as on the new Opel Mokka.
Opel Grandland night vision Night Vision
In addition to the standard LED headlights, the Opel Grandland is equipped with the system Night Vision, with which an infrared camera detects people and animals between 50 and 100 meters away in the direction of travel. The detection is carried out by measuring the temperature difference with respect to the surrounding environment.
The system warns the driver by showing the position, for example of pedestrians, on the digital instrumentation where the silhouette of the person (or animal) in front of the vehicle is chromatically highlighted, resulting clearly differentiated from the surrounding environment.
How much energy do Opel IntelliLux full LED headlights consume
To further reduce CO2 emissions, Opel plans High efficiency LED headlights also on the new Astra and the new Corsa. Each lighthouse consumes only between 13 and 14 Watts in low beam mode, which corresponds to a energy savings of 80% compared to halogen headlights.
Thanks to a special technology used for the reflectors, LED floodlights are also able to transform night in broad daylight.
