Tesla expands production at its Gigafactory located on the outskirts of Berlin. In fact, Elon Musk's giant has recently started assembling the first electric vehicles in its German factory right-hand drive intended for the Indian market, waiting to understand if and when a production site will be set up on site. The export of these electric cars (it is not clear which model it is, although currently only the Model Y is produced in the Gigafactory located on the outskirts of Berlin) destined for India and built in Germany will be implemented before the end of the year.
In view of entry into India
The indiscretion was relaunched by Reuters, which cites three people familiar with Tesla's plans. Just two of these three people also added a new detail related to India: a team from the US brand is expected will visit the Asian country by the end of this month to explore potential sites to build a local automotive manufacturing plant. In this sense we are talking about an investment of approximately 2 billion dollars.
Advantageous conditions
Tesla's move follows another move, namely that of the Indian government, which only last month cut the tax rate on the import of certain electric cars if their manufacturers invest $500 million or more in the country and start production within three years. So, according to the new Indian policy, companies can import up to 8,000 cars per year at a lower tax rate.
From Germany to the UK?
A real turning point for right-hand drive Teslas, given that up until now it has been the Gigafactory of Shanghai the main export hub of the American manufacturer to manage the production of electric cars with this driving configuration. So far, Tesla has imported right-hand drive Model Y models for its launch in United Kingdom from China, and did not say whether it actually switched to importing from Berlin.
