French Armed Forces Minister Florence Parly called on NATO partners to come to terms with the prospect of creating an all-European army. About it writes The Daily Telegraph.
According to her, the alliance does not need to be afraid of the combat units of the European Union, since the European defense is being built “not in opposition to NATO, but on the contrary, to strengthen and increase the viability of the alliance.” In turn, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also positively assessed the prospect of creating a single EU army complementary to NATO.
The publication noted that Parley’s statement was made after Australia, Great Britain and the United States entered into a new military alliance AUKUS. The agreement assumes that the three countries will facilitate the exchange of information and technological innovations in the field of neural networks, cybernetic and underwater systems. Because of this, Canberra canceled a contract with the French company Naval Group for 12 submarines worth $ 66 billion.
This action provoked an international scandal – in France, the gesture was called a stab in the back and for the first time in history they recalled their ambassador from the country. Amid the outbreak of conflict, the European Union has postponed negotiations on a free trade agreement with Australia.
