South of France Montpellier airport was closed for the time being on Saturday because a cargo plane partially ended up in a lake near the airport. This is reported by the news agency AFP.

For an unknown reason, the cargo plane had driven over the end of the runway and partially ended up in the lake. The photos showed how the nose of the plane rested in the water.

The plane’s crew was not injured in the accident.

Authorities said that the field will remain closed to both freight and passenger traffic. The reasons for the closure are safety factors and the transfer of the cargo plane, where the equipment and personnel of a special company are expected.

There were 21 flights arriving at the airport on Saturday before it was closed. According to the airport’s website, flights arriving there have either been canceled or their destination has been changed to the city of Marseille.
