France Macron: Opposition groups ready to co-operate on ‘important issues’

The Coalition Alliance, which supports the president, must work with other parties as it lost its majority in the French parliamentary elections on Sunday.

French opposition groups have indicated their readiness to work with the government on “important issues,” the president said Emmanuel Macron on wednesday.

In his televised speech, the president said opposition parties would be ready to move forward on important issues such as the cost of living, jobs, energy, climate and health.

Macron acknowledged the parliamentary elections highlighted France’s social problems and said a new way to manage and legislate should be learned together.

The Coalition Alliance, which supports the president, failed to win a majority in Sunday’s second round of parliamentary elections. The loss of a majority in Parliament means, in practice, that Macron supporters must work with other right-wing parties to get legislation through.
