Four people injured and one of them in serious condition is the balance of a traffic accident that occurred around four in the afternoon this Saturday at kilometer 84 of national highway 344 that connects Yecla with the town of Jumilla.
Only one van was involved in the accident, which overturned when seven people were traveling in it. The first investigations into the possible reasons for the accident suggest that the driver of the vehicle lost control due to ‘aquaplaning’, since at that time the road was wet from the rain that had fallen a few minutes before. Police sources assure that the driver of the van tested negative for alcohol and drugs, thus ruling out a possible influence of these substances in the tragic event.
The injured are field workers who came from the Alicante town of Villena, where they had spent the morning working, and were heading back to Jumilla, where they live.
Emergency sources confirmed that the most seriously injured person was transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital in Murcia. Three other occupants of the vehicle who also required transfer were admitted to the Virgen del Castillo de Yecla Hospital with a reserved prognosis.
Agents from the Yecla Local Police, an ambulance with medical personnel from 061 and a patrol from the Civil Traffic Guard went to the scene of the event. La Benemérita has taken charge of the investigation.
