The former federal deputy from Rio Grande do Sul Nelson Proença (Citizenship) died on Saturday (June 18, 2022), in São Paulo. He had been hospitalized for 3 months at Hospital Albert Einstein for complications from a covid-19 infection.
Born in Porto Alegre, he served 5 consecutive terms in the Chamber of Deputies: from 1991 to 2011. He also held positions in the government of Rio Grande do Sul. He was Extraordinary Secretary for Civil House Affairs (1995-1996) and Secretary General of the Government.
Before being elected deputy, he was undersecretary for Community Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic in the government of Jose Sarney (MDB), from 1986 to 1990.
Proença held office for the PPS, the former name of Cidadania. The president of the acronym, Roberto Freire, mourned the death.
