More than 3.3 million Ford-branded vehicles have been recalled in North America due to a problem with exchange which in some cases could prevent you from shifting to the selected gear. Models affected by the recall ordered by NHTSA are Escape 2013-2019, C-Max 2013-2018, Fusion 2013-2016, Transit Connect 2013-2021 and Edge 2015-2018. Of the 3.3 million copies recalled the vast majority, about 2.9 million, are in the United States, while the remaining 394,000 potentially defective vehicles refer to Canada.
According to reports from Reuters, the main problem concerns the damage to a gearbox wiring, which as mentioned could prevent you from selecting a specific gear or could make the vehicle move even when the latter is in “Parking” mode. Unlike other previous cases though, this time Ford has to contend with 4 reports of people injured following accidents potentially related to this problem, as well as with 6 reports of property damage. A problem that Ford has been chasing for years, to be precise since 2018: since then, in fact, there have already been five recalls ordered by the car manufacturer of the Blue Oval due to this potential defection to the gearbox. Ford has made it known that authorized dealers will solve the problem will replace the gearshift bushing and add a protective cap: all new components that will be installed will be produced with a different quality material.
