A few days ago the first example of the new one Ford Explorer left the assembly lines of the Cologne plant. This was announced by the Blue Oval car manufacturer itself, which took advantage of the occasion to celebrate its innovative plant dedicated to the production of electric vehicles for Europe, defined by Ford itself as “the factory of the future“. An important step for Ford Explorer, given that with the start of production, deliveries throughout Europe also begin.
Ford Explorer production
A fundamental model, built in a fundamental plant for Ford: we remember that for the transformation of the historic Cologne structure as a whole Cologne Electric Vehicle Center an investment of 2 billion dollars was required. All things considered, this is the first European Ford factory dedicated exclusively to the production of electric vehicles: it is equipped with the best technology, self-learning systems and over 600 new robotsresponsible for carrying out various operations such as welding, cutting, cleaning, painting and casting.
The factory of the future
“Seeing the historic Ford factory in Cologne, founded in 1930, transformed into a state-of-the-art electric vehicle manufacturing plant is surprising to say the least – commented Kieran Cahill, Vice President Manufacturing, Ford Europe and International Markets Group – The start of production of electric vehicles, with the new Explorer, marks the beginning of a new era for Ford in Europe. By monitoring and controlling every stage of the process, we bring unprecedented levels of quality to the European market.”
New electric sports crossover in Cologne
The new Explorer, which according to Ford “combines German engineering with American character” and it is strong over 600 km of autonomy with a single charge, it is only the first step in a long process which sees the Cologne production complex as the protagonist: the Blue Oval car manufacturer itself has announced that a second electric model will also be made on site, a sporty crossoverwhich will be revealed soon and will hit the market later this year.
