An Army veteran managed to prevent a crime with military tactics at a Starbucks in the city of Ocala, Florida, by stopping a man who was allegedly trying to steal a woman’s vehicle. The ex-military Shane Spicer witnessed the incident while waiting for his coffee, as police were chasing a man who had allegedly broken into a house and stolen a car.
“Just starting the day, I’d been awake for maybe 20 or 25 minutes,” Spicer told Orlando affiliate WOFL TV. “I live about a mile from that Starbucks.” The suspect, identified as Michael Prouty, He crashed the car at a busy intersection and ran toward the Starbucks where Spicer was waiting for his coffee..
Spicer witnessed the entire situation. “Running to Starbucks, and he didn’t look like a Starbucks coffee drinker,” Spicer told Fox. “Then he pulled the girl out of the car. It was instinctive, a reaction.” Spicer pursued Prouty and managed to hold him until police arrived to take the suspect into custody.

Although several people were injured in the crash at the intersection, Spicer was only a little breathless after his encounter, witnessed by his girlfriend and young daughter. “I feel like if you have the ability to take care of someone, you should do it,” Spicer told Fox. “I just hope someone does the same for my family.”
Prouty, who has had 13 felony convictions since 2000, faces multiple charges in multiple jurisdictions. Ocala Police charged Prouty with fleeing and evading, attempted carjacking, collision with injury and resisting arrest.. Sumter County authorities charged him with burglary, assault on a person over 65 years of age and theft of a vehicle.
