Case flexible wings
“The FIA is going in blind“; “We are ready to adapt“. These are the statements received from Red Bull regarding the flexible wings case raised by the Milton Keynes team against Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes. In Canada, FIA members visited the pits of Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren, focusing their attention on the front aerodynamic appendages.
Reached by the header oe24 Helmut Marko made these statements about the flexible wings case raised by Red Bull itself: “Mercedes has a new front wing and in the television images from the Canadian GP you can see that they were significantly bent. However, in technical checks the wings proved to have the necessary resistance. This doesn’t surprise me. I don’t know how often we had to check our wings.”
“There is a well-defined procedure with weights under which a wing must not bend. It’s quite common to push everything to the limit so that the wing adapts to scrutineering. During the race, the wing is lowered, guaranteeing better aerodynamics – added Marko – in Montreal everything went well, both as regards ours and those of the competition. There will be a new technical check in Barcelona, Austria etc. Is it fair to say that Red Bull wants to clip Mercedes’ wings? It’s a funny play on words, it has a satirical edge, but only the FIA can do that“.
