At least five provinces have created extra reception places for asylum seekers this weekend. Which reports the NOS Sunday based on a tour of the Dutch provinces. The cabinet called on the provinces on Friday to provide at least 100 extra reception places each this weekend. In this way, the application center in Ter Apel in Groningen, which became overloaded in recent weeks and where hundreds of people had to sleep on the floor due to a lack of beds, must be relieved.
Zeeland, Drenthe, Overijssel, Flevoland and Utrecht are said to have already found extra reception places this weekend. In Drenthe there are 150 places in a former hotel in Emmen, in Zeeland 100 beds in an event center in Middelburg and in Utrecht 100 places in hotels in Amersfoort and in the city of Utrecht. Overijssel has found 100 reception places in Hengelo, in Flevoland there are 90 places in the town of Dronten.

Friesland and Groningen tell the NOS that they will not make extra reception available. According to the province of Friesland, it would be the turn of other provinces, because they are already “doing more than they should”. Groningen would be exempt because of the situation in the Ter Apel application center. The other provinces were either unreachable or stated that they could not disclose anything to the NOS.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice and Security, which has asked for the extra reception places, said: NRC are currently unable to have an overview of which provinces have and have not responded to the call. The ministries of Justice and Security and the Interior will meet again on Monday. An inventory will then also be made of how many extra reception places have been added this weekend and how many are still needed.
