Alexandre Abrão, son of the singer and composer Chorão, said that his father left unpayable debts. In an interview with g1, the heir to the band’s rights Charlie Brown Jr. spoke about the problems faced with the legacy left by his father.

He said that in 2005, when Charlie Brown broke up and Champignon, Marcão and Pelado left, Chorão wanted to do a solo project called Chorão Skate Vibe. As he had a contract with EMI (the label was incorporated by Sony), the president did not agree, stating that he was Charlie Brown and not Chorão. At this point, he decided to buy the artistic, brand and image rights from other musicians and, thus, became the owner of the band.
The debt, however, remained and the record company retains the amounts to pay the debt. “My father, to buy [os direitos dos outros músicos], made a debt to EMI of advanced (a term used in the music market to talk about advance payments from record labels to musicians). To pay off the purchase with Marcão, Champignon and Pelado”, said the young man to g1.
In addition to paying the debt of ‘advanced’ from EMI, Abrão says he still pays for all the legal problems inherited from Charlie Brown, who has several lawsuits.
It is also worth mentioning that recently guitarists Marcão and Thiago Castanho announced the departure of projects involving the former band.
