D.On Friday, the Bundestag approved the amendment to the Infection Protection Act, which, among other things, prescribes compulsory vaccinations for staff in hospitals and old people’s homes. Parliament passed on Friday with the votes of the traffic light coalition made up of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP, as well as the support of the
opposition union also expanded measures to contain the pandemic.
The new Federal Minister of Health, Karl Lauterbach (SPD), urged haste at the beginning of the debate. “We have no time to waste,” he said. Fighting the pandemic is a task “for all of us”. Party politics shouldn’t play a role.
The facility-related vaccination requirement should also apply to facilities in which people with disabilities are cared for, day clinics, medical practices, emergency services or socio-educational centers. With the new law, the federal states can also order the closure of clubs and discos, as well as restaurants. In order to accelerate the booster vaccinations, dentists, veterinarians and pharmacists should also be allowed to temporarily administer vaccinations against the coronavirus in the future.
The new regulation should also be approved by the Federal Council on Friday, which will meet for a special session. In addition to the amendment to the Infection Protection Act, the Bundestag and Bundesrat are deciding on an ordinance that should also allow contact restrictions for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.
