The FIFA World Federation Association excluded a participant almost three months before the start of the club World Cup and now has to start looking for a new 32nd starter. The Mexican representative Club León must not participate in the tournament this summer (June 14th to July 13th), as FIFA announced.
The reason for the exclusion is that Club León and CF Pachuca (also Mexico) are violating competition provisions because both teams are under the same ownership. “After evaluating all available evidence, the chairman of the FIFA call-up committee came to the conclusion that CF Pachuca and Club León do not meet the (…) of several football clubs,” said it from the FIFA.
The club from the city of León had already been drawn to Group D for the tournament and was to play its opening game against Chelsea in Atlanta on June 16. FIFA wrote that a replacement participant would be announced at a later date.
