The discontent and general controversy over the Ferrari they do not seem to subside even at the end of the Belgian Grand Prix, once again the scene of some questionable errors: despite the podium of Carlos Sainz3rd behind the Red Bull duo after starting from pole position, the team’s moves towards Charles have generated the greatest perplexities Leclerc, especially with the new tires mounted by mistake in the Monegasque during Q3. In addition, there was the very risky strategy of having the same number 16 return to the penultimate lap of the race, in order to aim for the fastest lap.
A goal not only missed, but also characterized by the speed limit exceeded by Leclerc in the pit lane, with an attached time penalty that pushed the 24-year-old to 6th place, losing fifth to Fernando Alonso. Looking back at the past of this controversial championship in Maranello, there is another statistic that makes us think: from the Spanish Grand Prix onwards, Carlos Sainz has always preceded his teammate to the finish line on the five occasions in which both have seen the checkered flag.
In this period of time, however, aspects that have generated harsh criticism of the Ferrari wall, starting with the incorrect call to the pits by Leclerc in the Monaco GP. An episode that compromised any chance of winning the number 16, as it happened in Hungary and at Silverstone, where Leclerc had to throw a first place for at least questionable strategic choices. In Montreal and Spa, however, Leclerc was called to a comeback after serving penalties for replacing the engine. Case apart from the remaining three races of the period under analysis: at the Hungaroring, Le Castellet and Red Bull Ring at least one driver did not see the checkered flag, complicit in reliability problems or driving errors.
Including all the races of the championship, the post-Belgium ranking now sees Leclerc in 3rd place right in front of his teammate, 15 points behind eight GPs from the conclusion of a championship with few positive aspects and many regrets.
