Overview :
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Ferrari recently filed a patent for an electric or hybrid sports car whose architecture resembles that of a rear-engined supercar. A special feature of the submitted plans is that the battery pack will be housed in the place traditionally occupied by the combustion engine, in what appears to be a subframe that can be welded or glued to the central structure.
Internal combustion engine in the front
This architecture also allows for the addition of small electrical modules under the passenger seat. Better yet, this supercar could also be a hybrid, with an electric motor and batteries in the center back and an internal combustion engine… in the front. The main battery is slightly tilted upwards to create negative lift, which means that the efficiency of the diffuser is optimized while at the same time allowing ideal circulation and distribution of heat within the platform, e.g. for better cooling of the battery.
All kinds of battery types
According to the patent specification, the cells for the floor-integrated modules would be cylindrical, while for the smaller package under the passenger, different cell types could be used: cylindrical, prismatic or pocket (ultra-compact) cells.
