In 1998 you couldn’t imagine that Michael Schumacher and the Ferrari they would have won five consecutive world championships, making their mark on the history books of the Formula 1 amazing feats. At the time the defeat of Suzuka it was a very hard blow for all fans: the German, fighting for the title with Mika Hakkinen’s McLaren-Mercedes, had a terrible weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix. First he stalled the car on the grid from pole position and later, after a furious comeback, he was forced to retire due to a puncture. Now the F300 that Schumi drove in that race is on sale in Florida.
The car is worth 4.9 million dollars, at the exchange rate € 4.4 million. With this single-seater Schumacher also took second place at the Luxembourg Grand Prix, held at the Nurburgring, after taking pole position. The value of the car is high for several reasons: it is an F1 capable of finishing a race on the podium; it’s a Ferrari; was led by Michael Schumacher; it was the protagonist of a final race in a hard-fought championship. And despite more than twenty years having passed, the car’s technology and design still look incredibly modern.
The announcement was posted on DuPont Registry. The car was designed by Rory Byrne, and mounts a type 047 engine, 10 V (90 °) cylinders with a displacement of 2.997 cm³ and a power of 805 horsepower. At the beginning of that year, Ferrari also mounted the so-called ‘candelabra’, that is, the wings placed on the side of the bonnet, above the sides. Once banned, in Maranello it was decided to introduce the solution of “high” exhausts, that is, placed in the upper part of the body. The novelty was a marked improvement for the F300, thus giving Schumacher and Eddie Irvine the ability to significantly improve performance in a car that was already born very well. Unfortunately for Schumacher the title did not arrive, while now some wealthy enthusiast will be able to ‘win’ the race to take possession of a car with a really important history.
