Encouraging start for the Cavallino in Bahrain, but a double brake problem prevented the SF-24 from being able to express itself in a clean race. At Rossa's house they try to discover the origin of the problem that caused an important situation temperature difference between the front brakes left and right on Leclerc's car, in difficulty with a car unbalanced towards one direction when braking. The same problem also compromised tire management, damaging the Monegasque's race, while his teammate had to deal with another problem
Broken grip and flat tire
At the moment, the hypothesis of a defect in the Brembo components, which supplies the Cavallino with discs, calipers and pads, seems to be ruled out. The area of focus is rather a front air intake on Leclerc's Ferrari, a component which was also replaced before the start on the left side and on which a crack was apparently highlighted. Driver number 16 found himself in great difficulty while driving, locking up several times while braking flattening the front tire. All this generated worrying vibrations, forcing the wall to call the Monegasque back to the pits for an early stop.
Vibrations for Sainz
Carlos Sainz played a less tormented race than his teammate, finishing on the lowest step of the podium. However, the Spaniard revealed that he himself had to deal with a brake problem: “During the first stint and at the beginning of the second, every time we were in traffic we had lots of vibrations from the brakes and the pedal at a certain point began to sink. For me it was always a compromise management: attack to get out of the dirty air or start preserving the brakes because they would have given out?”
“I started managing them by moving on the straight to cool the side that was overheating and the vibrations improved. At that point I was able to overtake and start moving up. Like I said though, it wasn't great at first. For a while' the brakes were still a limitation. Once everything fell into place, I was able to hit my stride, overtake and go after the podium.” At Ferrari, the data is being analyzed to understand whether the double problem on the two Reds was a coincidence or the consequence of a common problem. Time is ticking, with Jeddah just around the corner.
