The Galician opens the seat that corresponds to him in Congress as leader of the opposition, but he will not be able to reply to Sánchez as he is not a deputy
Alberto Núñez Feijóo is premiering. The president of the PP has occupied this Tuesday for the first time the seat that corresponds to him in the Congress as leader of the opposition. And he has done it in the star plenary session of the lower house: the debate on the state of the nation, which is being held after seven years of drought. “I come to listen with great interest”, he has confessed to the journalists before entering the hemicycle. On his lapel, he wears a blue ribbon, a symbol of the fight against ETA on the 25th anniversary of the kidnapping and murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco. A declaration of intentions.
The Galician has arrived on time for his appointment, after 11:30 am, accompanied by the general secretary of the popular in Congress, Carlos Rojas, and the deputy secretary of Social Policies, Carmen Navarro. He has greeted several deputies from the PSOE with whom he has crossed on his way to the office that the leader of the opposition has and that Pablo Casado occupied until four months ago. There he has met the general secretary and parliamentary spokesperson for the PP, Cuca Gamarra. It will be she who this afternoon is measured with the President of the Government. Feijóo is unable to reply as he is not a deputy.
That the duel is deferred (it will be tomorrow when the leader of the PP responds to Pedro Sánchez in the summer courses that the formation organizes in El Escorial) does not worry the conservatives who believe that the combination of his mere presence and the intervention of Gamarra will be enough to embarrass the chief executive. The PP came to consult the lawyers of Congress to see if there was any possibility that Feijóo could go up to the speakers’ gallery but they found that there was no margin. The Galician is a senator and the regulations of the lower house state that he can only attend without a voice.
Feijóo has entered the hemicycle accompanied by Gamarra and to applause from the popular bench. Just before, he greeted with a handshake the ministers who sit under his seat, the Minister of Universities, Joan Subirats, the Minister of Inclusion, José Luis Escrivá, and the Minister of Consumption, Alberto Garzón. After occupying his seat, the leader of the PP has not lost detail of Sánchez’s speech and has not stopped taking notes at any time.
