Van Huêt and Pollemans play two brothers who live off their father’s pension. Then their father dies, but the men want to keep the benefit. That’s why they put their father in the freezer. When their father is called in for a heart check, the brothers decide to find a man who can impersonate their father.
Jörgen Scholtens (Little Amsterdam) is responsible for the direction. He also collaborated on the script, together with Daan Windhorst (De Kuthoer) and Pepijn van Weeren (Little Amsterdam). Production is in the hands of Rachel van Bommel and Suzan de Swaan.
,,I liked the script of Fathers & Sons great,” says Van Huêt. “I like black comedy in the style of the Coen brothers and the own style of director Jörgen Scholtens.” Scholtens calls it a ‘tragi-comic story’, with which he wants to discuss ‘the importance of healthy parent-child relationships’ in an accessible manner. “What does it do to a man if his parents have not loved him? And what does it do to you, even though you are already well into your adult life, when you suddenly get the attention and love that every person needs?”
In addition to Van Huêt, Pollemans and Hanssen, Kees Hulst, Anneke Blok, Mariana Aparicio Torres and Beppie Melissen can be seen in the film.
