Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer hopes to return to the court at the end of next summer, after an eight-month absence and suffering in the last two years with knee injuries.
Veteran Federer, the 20th major title holder, has not played a tournament since losing the last Wimbledon quarter-final in July to Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, and the knee surgery that followed his loss was the third in a year and a half.
“I’m in good shape, I’m getting better, in two months I moved on crutches, it was a long time, and I had to start from scratch,” Federer told Swiss state television “SRF” on the sidelines of the Ski World Cup. .
The former world number one continued, “I am now at a point where I can think of returning,” adding that he needs some time to determine if he is able to return “at the end of the summer, early fall.”
This means that the player, who turns 41 on August 8, will not be able to play his favorite tournament at Wimbledon.
With only 13 wins in 2020 and 2021, Rodger slipped to 27th in the world’s professional rankings.
