According to the latest estimates for Easter and Easter Monday lunch, more than 6 million Italians will go to restaurants, of which over 89% will be open
There will be 6.4 million guests who will consume the Easter lunch 2024 in Italian restaurants, in line with the attendance recorded last year, although entrepreneurs' expectations are never particularly positive when the holiday arrives “low” on the calendar. The total expense is estimated at 450 million eurosgrowing compared to 2023 also due to an inevitable adjustment of the price lists.
The data was disclosed by the FIPE-Confcommercio Study Centerthe Italian Federation of Public Businesseswhich published a survey on restaurateurs' expectations for Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Among the restaurant guests there will mostly be residents, but there will be no shortage of tourists, including many Italians (35.2% of the total) who will travel to different locations around the country during these holidays. For the occasion, the89.2% of restaurants, a slight increase compared to last year.
As for the menu, the majority of restaurateurs (62.2% of the total) will offer the “tasting” formula consisting of 6 courses at an average price of 69 euros, drinks included. 37.8% will offer an a la carte menu instead. In eight out of ten restaurants the gastronomic offer expresses a strong link with tradition and with the typical products of the Easter period. Among the first courses, fresh pasta, mainly available in ravioli or lasagna, and risotto will be the mainstream of the restaurant table. Among the latter, obviously there will belamb or kid cooked according to the many regional recipes and, finally, in addition to traditional desserts (pastiera, cassata, colomba, Easter eggs), guests will find many typical regional products, such as bounet or fiadone, and some surprises from the chef.
For Monday Easter Monday a slight decline is expected compared to 2023, with 78.1% of activities welcoming 4.9 million customers, including residents and tourists. The menu, unlike the Easter lunch, will be above all a la carte, offered by 71.6% of restaurants, at an average price of 51 euros, for three dishes excluding drinks. The “tasting menu” solution is priced at 68 euros, drinks included. The expected expenditure will be a total of 250 million euros.
