The question that comes to mind is the motives of these fake accounts, and how can they affect the credibility of organizations and employers?
A survey of the “Krebs On Security” website, which specializes in information security, revealed that LinkedIn is full of effective fake accounts.
The poll focused on an issue related to information security towards the largest social network for professionals, which has a membership of more than 800 million users, nearly 4 times the 238 million Twitter users.
The survey examined a group of LinkedIn profiles, and the surprise was to find thousands of fake accounts claiming to hold major positions in international companies such as ExxonMobil and Chevron.
On the issue, security and information technology expert Raed Sammour told Sky News Arabia: “LinkedIn represents a fertile environment for fraudsters and stalkers, and it is a company built in a commercial way, so it is in its interest to have many users even if they are fake, so the process of purifying users and procedures The security of the platform is very weak.”
Sammour added: “It is striking that a platform like LinkedIn does not disclose the size of its fake accounts, and the accounts are always exposed by a third party.”
According to the survey, the owners of fake accounts on LinkedIn are more sophisticated and cunning than those on Twitter.
According to experts, “LinkedIn” allows anyone to create a fake character to look like a real one, by copying data from actual resumes on the site.
On the other hand, the famous recruitment platform did not deny the existence of these accounts, as it said in a statement that “the company is facing an ongoing challenge and we are constantly working to improve our systems to stop counterfeit accounts.”
