What is the Trusted Accounts feature?
In 2011, Facebook introduced the “Trusted Accounts” feature to users, which is the user’s choice of 3 to 5 virtual friends, so that they can be relied upon in case the user has difficulty logging into his account.
Once this feature is activated, “Facebook” sends codes to these friends, and asks the user to communicate with them to obtain the codes sent to them. natural.
But with Facebook’s new decision, the feature will stop working completely, in the coming weeks.
In a notification that began appearing within the Facebook application and on the website, the social network required the user to make sure that his email address and an accessible phone number were registered, so that he could rely on them to recover his account in the event of difficulty logging in.
The social network, which has 1.93 billion daily active users around the world, did not reveal the reason behind its sudden decision to stop the “Trusted Accounts” feature, nor did it issue a statement on that.
But social networking expert Mohammed Al-Harthy attributes this step to what he called a “comprehensive review by Facebook of all security measures on user accounts.”
The expert explains that “Facebook aims to confirm the registration of the email address and phone number, to enable users to secure their accounts in more reliable ways.”
He believes that the problem behind this step lies in “the lack of a secure alternative for all users, which is the Facebook Protect feature, which the network provides to politicians and users whose accounts have a wide spread on the network only.”
This step by Facebook comes in conjunction with the activation of some features, such as turning on the two-step identity confirmation feature, and confirming some personal data such as email and phone number.
