In the fourth stage of the FIA Formula 3 championship, which ended today at the Silverstone circuit, the drivers of the Ferrari Driver Academy shone: Arthur Leclerc he imposed himself in the Feature Race by taking his first win of the season and relaunching himself in the general classification after the disappointing Spanish weekend. With this success Leclerc came back second at 71 points, just six behind Victor Martins. “We have put together a great weekend – Arthur commented – the positive results started with the second position obtained in qualifying, and the next two races confirmed the good pace we hoped to have. It’s a very open championship, yesterday I was fifth in the standings, now I’m second, confirming the great balance that I believe will accompany us until the end of the championship “.
Leclerc added the points obtained with the eighth position in Race-1, in which he finished ahead of Oliver Bearman. The seventeen year old Briton has been the author of an excellent comeback in the Feature Race, managing to climb from the sixth position occupied at the start to the third final. “I am very happy to be able to get on the podium in my home race – commented Bearman – it was not an easy race because I was stuck behind Caio Collet for a long time because of the little train created by the DRS. When I finally managed to pass two laps from the end, my pace immediately improved, and if I had had one more lap I would have probably finished the race in second position. But I’m still happy, it went well“. The third place allowed Bearman to climb to fifth place in the general classification, which now sees him at 43 points.
In the first race of the English weekend Bearman and Leclerc started from seventh and eleventh position respectively, thanks to the inverted grid (in the first six rows) with respect to the qualifying result. The race, which saw very few overtakes, saw Leclerc gain a position at the start, while Oliver had a more difficult start. “I lost a position after the start – explained Oliver – then in an attempt to recover I was pushed off the track, losing another position. It was a challenging first lap ”. In the second part of the race Leclerc and Bearman found themselves in a fight for the eighth position, conquered by Arthur under the checkered flag with three tenths of an advantage over his teammate.
At the end of the qualifying disputed on Friday, Leclerc conquered an excellent second position, which guaranteed him the start from the front row in the Feature Races. The first lap was very lively, with Oliver making up ground by climbing from sixth to fourth. The Safety Car froze the race for the next three laps, and when the race resumed Leclerc immediately got in the wake of leader Zak O’Sullivan, managing to overtake him in the sixth lap. After a subsequent Safety Car, Arthur managed the restart very well, checking the missing laps up to the checkered flag. Bearman’s final race was more animated, after a long chase he managed to overtake Caio Collet with two laps to go with a maneuver as daring as it was spectacular, taking a precious and deserved third position.
