Three red flags in half an hour of session: la qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix lasted much longer than expected for Formula 2 at the Jeddah circuit, in a test that ended with the fastest man on the track awarded to the Brazilian Felipe Drugovich. The MP Motorsport driver, already author of the best time at the end of today’s free practice, has in fact granted himself a welcome encore also in qualifying, conquering the pole position for Sunday’s Feature Race with a performance that left no way out Verschoor, 2 ° to two tenths of delay. Disaster instead for Armstrong, who decides not to take part in the final minutes of testing losing his provisional pole and even finishing 4th, behind Jack Doohan. However, a complex Friday for the cadet category of F1, characterized by five total interruptions in the space of a day: two during PL and three more in qualifying.
In this last session, the first red flag was displayed by the commissioners following the withdrawal of Theo Pourchaire, already the author of an accident in the Saudi afternoon and subsequently remained on the track with the engine on fire 12 minutes from the start of the activity on the track. Five turns of the clock after the forfeit of the ART Grand Prix, the Race Direction had to stop the hostilities again, this time for an accident that occurred to the American Logan Sargeant. The Carlin driver, after losing control of his car at the entrance to Turn 19, in fact collided with the guards. More embarrassing, however, the reason for the third and last red flag, caused by a Vesti’s GPS fault, which was erroneously stopped in the middle of the track. The event, which prompted the Medical Car to intervene on the track, was resolved in a few moments, due to the misfortune of Ralph Boschung. The Swiss, who appeared as one of the major candidates for pole, has in fact aborted his attempt three times: in two cases due to the interruption of the session, and in one for a rash maneuver by Vesti himself, who closed the leads to the Campos driver at the last corner. In this way, Boschung must therefore be satisfied with the 5th place finish. Next appointment with Formula 2 scheduled for 13:30 in Italy tomorrow, with the inversion of the top ten that will give life to the second Sprint Race of the year.
