F1 | Sainz: “The time has come to decide my future”

These are intense days for Carlos Sainz. There is a challenging present, a future to plan and an agenda without downtime, as is tradition before the home match. The national media are vying for Carlos’ presence, above all to find out his future, which has now been a catchphrase for weeks.

Speaking to the Antena3 broadcaster, Sainz reiterated that he is now close to making a decision. “I have everything on the table – explained Carlos – and I will decide very soon because I want to get rid of thoughts about the future and concentrate on the rest of the season with Ferrari. This year I have a car that allows me to aim for the podium and be able to win some races, I want to be focused on the goal.”

Sainz was also teased about the treatment he received from Ferrari, referring to the internal confrontation with Leclerc and the response was open to interpretation.
“Did they treat me like Charles? Yes, at any time. Honestly, I can’t complain about the treatment I received at Ferrari. Then, there are always moments of tension, it happens in every team, situations where you think they could have helped you a little more, but maybe Charles or Ferrari think I could have behaved a little better on some occasions. This is racing, you turn the page and look forward.”

On the non-renewal of the contract with the Scuderia, Carlos today has a very pragmatic view, the shock of February has been put aside…
“No one likes to be told that the team doesn’t want to continue the relationship – he explained – and I don’t think anyone likes being dumped. At first, when I was given the news, I was shocked, especially because I had come from positive seasons. But there was a seven-time world champion called Lewis Hamilton who wanted to come to Ferrari and in Maranello they had to find a place for him. In these cases you have to take it philosophically, accept it and look forward, today I see my situation as an opportunity for the future, there will be other opportunities, there will be other moments and I still want to win races and be world champion, I have to try.”
