The first piece has been put in place. Charles Leclerc took pole in Monaco with a sensational lap that confirmed the Ferrari driver’s great feeling with the home track already seen from the first free practice sessions on Friday.
Effective, fast, always precise, Charles tackled the 3,337 meters of the Monte Carlo circuit flawlessly until he stopped the clock at a time of 1’11 ” 376 and trimmed two tenths to his teammate Carlos Sainz.
Like last year, however, Leclerc had to hold back his joy due to a red flag. This year, however, it was not he who provoked her but Sergio Perez.
When the Mexican took to the track for the second attempt he lost the rear of the Red Bull at the entrance to the Portier, crashing into the barriers and then being hit by Sainz.
The race direction was forced to interrupt the session early and deprive Leclerc of the possibility of further lowering the reference time.
“I am incredibly happy. It’s been a very straightforward weekend so far. I knew I had the pace and I just had to get the job done ”declared a visibly satisfied Charles at the end of qualifying.

The only disappointment of the day for Leclerc, if you can call it that, was precisely not having had the opportunity to close the second attempt. In the last run, in fact, the Monegasque had lowered his reference point in the first sector by almost two tenths and was literally flying into the second.
“The last lap before the red flag was really good. I was really at the limit and I suffered a lot of oversteer. I struggled to get the tires in the right temperature window in the first sector due to the traffic. I was improving a lot, I was 4 tenths faster. The car felt fantastic and it’s fantastic to have Carlos with me on the front row ”.
Having conquered the second consecutive pole in Monaco, now comes the difficulty for Leclerc. There seems to be a curse on the home track that always prevents Charles from seeing the checkered flag. In addition to that, the weather forecast indicates the arrival of rain for tomorrow.
Despite all these unknowns, concrete and less, Leclerc showed an embarrassing tranquility.
“I think the race will be a bit more predictable in dry conditions, but whatever happens we will be equally competitive.”
