Ferrari did not bring any important news to Miami, reserving the right to introduce the important package of updates at Imola, on the occasion of the first European race. For the moment we have to settle for the new livery enriched by the two shades of blue that adorn the SF-24 and the appearance of HP as title sponsor.
Actually ours Giorgio Piola he never misses an opportunity to observe the details of the individual single-seaters and in the Miami garage he didn’t miss the front brake basket. This year, the Scuderia has adapted the design of this carbon element to the choices that had been made by other teams, that is to say “dressing” the disc and the caliper with two baskets, in an attempt to isolate the heat produced by the braking system, creating a sort of cavity with cold air that prevented the rim from assimilating the high temperature that could be transmitted to the tyre.
Since F1 adopted 18-inch rims in 2022 and the FIA prohibited air vents from the outside of the wheel (special rim covers were fitted), the teams who used to radiate the heat from the brakes to get the front tires up to temperature quickly, they completely changed their strategy, trying to isolate the tire as much as possible from the flashes generated by the disc during braking.
Last year the red one had a double basket mounted on the same element: a solution that theoretically should have offered a weight advantage which, in reality, had the flaw of not being easily developable. In the photo it is possible to observe the lower basket, while the external one has been dismantled, so it is possible to note which parts of the intakes cool the caliper and which the disc, with specific ducts for each detail.
