Since F1 announced the introduction of the new technical regulation, speculation about the possibility that some teams could find a gray zone and take advantage of it have been wasted.
The Brawn GP found in 2009 immediately returned to memory, thanks to the introduction of the double diffuser it managed to monopolize the first part of the season and then conquer the title at the end of the year.
Ross Brawn intervened on the issue and explained that he did not expect a similar situation in this 2022 characterized by ground-effect single-seaters.
“There is no certainty that something will happen that we have not foreseen, but if it does happen I don’t think we will see this found in the Barcelona tests. It will probably take place on the occasion of the first race “.
“At the moment, however, I don’t think there is a possibility that anyone has found a gray area. The regulations are quite strict on the matter, but never say never “.
According to Brawn, the new FIA governing system will be of great help, as it does not require unanimity between teams to ban innovative solutions. The teams are aware, in fact, that investments in research and development, in times of budget cap, could be burned if a solution were rejected.
“This is one of the reasons why the housekeeper was changed. I think the teams now prefer to be sure of the legality of their ideas before proceeding with the installation of the components on the car ”.

“If you know that the teams, the FIA and F1 can prevent you from doing something they believe is not legal, then you are more cautious about proceeding because you know that a problem could arise.”
Brawn then talked about the look of the new single-seaters, totally different from that admired up until last season, and underlined that he appreciated the absence of the high-raked profile.
“They look great and I think fans think the same way. Seeing cars with a trim flush with the asphalt gives them a totally different look from what we were used to. Previously we had cars with very high rears and grazing noses that never looked like a racing car. I think these are much more aggressive to watch “.
To date, 4 2022 single-seaters have been officially presented. Excluding Red Bull, which showed the livery for this season on a show car, we got to admire the lines of the Haas, Aston Martin, AlphaTauri and McLaren, as well as those of the Alfa Romeo Sauber portrayed in the livery camouflage in the exclusive photos published on Motorsport.com.

If in the beginning it was thought that the new regulation had put a stop to the imagination of the designers, in reality the design of these cars is very varied and Brawn appreciated this aspect.
“It’s nice to see these differences. When the regulation was published, we received criticism that the cars would all be the same. We didn’t think so and the facts proved us right “.
“Honestly, before I get an idea I want to see the cars live and I’m going to Barcelona for the first test session. There I will be able to get a complete impression, but I think this variety of interpretations is reassuring ”.
