Extreme E has formalized the route of the X-Prix Island, the fourth round of the series reserved for Odyssey 21 electric SUVs that will be held in Sardinia at Capo Teulada.
The track promises to be very hard and selective and very different from the funds found in previous events: compared to the soft sand that characterized the opening rounds in Saudi Arabia and Senegal, the Sardinian test that takes place in the former NATO base offers a thin layer of dust on particularly compacted rocky ground.
The crews will have to change the approach with which they will face this event which is full of pitfalls: the rain and the activity of tanks in the military area have created deep furrows that will make it more difficult to follow an ideal trajectory.
The deliberate route is 7.03 km and was extended by 30 meters after the repositioning of one of the 28 gates. The route up to the first waypoint allows a choice between six different but similar routes. The first half of the lap is in an open field that allows for different trajectories before narrowing down to the super timed sector, which assigns points to the fastest team: in this section two very treacherous fords must be overcome, before the course reopens.

The organizers have erected fences to prevent livestock, especially cows and goats, from invading the track, creating very dangerous situations. There are also doubts about the weather conditions because a strong thunderstorm with rain for Sunday is not excluded.
To ensure maximum safety for the crews, it was decided to remove about 60 boulders along the track. As for the power that the crews (a woman driver and a man) will have available, we are talking about a value well below the 470 kW available, taking into account that the dust found on the rocky bottom will make the cars very difficult. to check for slipperiness.
A shorter route has been planned for the subsequent development tests of the car and tires, which will also be used by rookie drivers who will enter into action after the X-Prix.
DTM champion Timo Scheider, Extreme E reserve driver and consultant chosen as course planner explained: “This time the challenge is really tough, because the riders will find a completely different scenario from what they were used to. In addition to the fords and the rocky bottom, the most insidious challenges will come from the hidden bumps ”.
“There are curves to go through at medium and high speed, so it will be crucial to be able to control the frequent weight transfer: the drivers will have to be good at maintaining a good concentration threshold”.
