Confcommercio: in 2022 Italian families will spend an average of 1,950 euros on energy and gas against the current 1,523
A energy expenditure of over 11 billion plus and a 40% price increase for electricity and gas: the high bills deriving from the electricity and gas markets and the rush to inflation which, in consideration of the increases expected already for January, risks exceed 4% early next year, could present in the 2022 a huge bill for families and businesses in the service sector.
The liveliness of consumption that is characterizing the Christmas period is likely to suffer an abrupt and heavy halt with the beginning of the next year. The analysis of Confcommercio on the effects of inflationary recovery he was born in dear-bills son households and businesses in the service sector.
According to Confcommercio, the tensions on energy goodsi, which began in the final part of 2020 and initially considered transitory as attributed to the recovery in demand, have become increasingly intense in recent months, with a significant impact on both household and business accounts.
“The phenomenon – warns the confederation – is likely to significantly mitigate growth for 2022. In fact, next year, the impact on both household and business spending will be even greater than that already suffered in 2021 “.
If in 2020 the Italian families spent an average of € 1,320 for expenses for electricity and gas (equal to 4.7% of total annual expenditure) the outlay rose to 1,523 euros in 2021 with an increase of over 200 euros. The situation appears even more difficult in perspective: in 2022 this figure should rise to almost 1,950 euros (+426 euros compared to 2021) coming to represent 6.1% of consumption.
“This additional outlay, in aggregate, that is, for the total of nearly 26 million households, would result in higher energy costs, determined by the price component alone, of over 11 billion euros in 2022. Considering this expenditure as difficult to compress by families – continues Confcommercio – it is presumable that they are forced to give up other expenses among those not obliged, prolonging the difficulties of sectors already severely hit by the pandemic.
Furthermore, the comparison between the higher aggregate expenditure and the allocations foreseen by the government to mitigate its impacts – between 3 and 4 billion euros for households and small businesses as a whole – highlights the relative scarcity of the also important support intervention “. For Confcommercio, therefore” it seems inevitable both a rethinking of energy policies and a different price strategy for related consumption “.
For a’trucking company, whose operating costs for 30% are represented by the cost of fuel, in the last year the cost of LNG (liquefied natural gas), the only alternative fuel available immediately for heavy vehicles, has more than doubled, making this sustainable transport solution paradoxically inexpensive.
According to Confcommercio, it is necessary address the issue of dependence on foreign suppliesThis dependence makes Italy more vulnerable and more exposed to strong fluctuations in commodity prices. Furthermore, it is necessary to initiate a reform of the structure of the energy bill, also addressing the issue of general system costs.
Then measures are needed to offset the negative impacts of rising fuel prices on the entire transport and logistics chain and regulatory measures that ensure competitive markets, affordable prices, environmental and social sustainability of investments and security of supply, creating an energy transition model that allows to combine technological innovation, respect for the environment and employment and economic benefits for citizens and businesses.
The repercussions of the uptrend of electricity and gas on the energy bill of companies represents a real emergency: Confcommercio affirms it, according to which in the absence of containment measures, for the next first quarter 2022, increases in electricity and gas costs between 38% and 42%.
Confcommercio gives some examples, in accordance with current legislation and with the automatisms in place: for a shop with committed power of 35 kilowatts and annual consumption 75 thousand kilowatt hours, the higher cost for the electricity bill would be over 6 thousand euros on an annual basis out of a total of 19 thousand euros.
For a restaurant with a committed power of 50 kilowatt hours and a consumption of 100 thousand kilowatt hours in a year, the highest expenditure for the electricity bill would be around 8.5 thousand euros per year out of a total of 28 thousand euros.
For a hotel with a committed power of 90 kilowatt hours and consumption of 260 thousand kilowatt hours in a year, the greatest expense for the electricity bill would be around 20 thousand euros per year out of a total of 65 thousand euros. Added to these is the increase in the gas bill for another 8 thousand euros for a typical hotel out of an annual total of 19 thousand euros.
