Exercise Amanda Rantanen inherited the joy of great exercise from her home: “It has taught me to be a better person”

The striker of the women’s national football team Amanda Rantanen got excited about exercise and sports in her childhood home, where there was a lot of exercise. His father Rami Rantanen is also a former national team player.

Photograph From the area of Töölö’s ball field, almost nine years ago, he talks about Rantanen’s family’s love of football, exercise and sports.

At the time, 15-year-old twins Amanda and Daniel Rantanen bouncing football with his father Rami Rantasen following the skill with a smile on his lips. Getting around has always been a common hobby at Rantas.

“We have always been encouraged to move. We have moved with the family in various ways since I was a child, ”says Amanda Rantanen.

The twins turn 24 on Wednesday. Amanda plays football for the women’s national team as well as the Swedish main series in Damallsvenskan at KIF Örebro. Daniel’s club is Turku Palloseura, which plays in Ykkönen.

“Sport is important to them. They enjoy what they do and nice that the sport is futis. Of course, I proudly watch matches, but I don’t have time to see every game live, ”says Rami Rantanen.

He is the head coach of PK-35, who plays in the National League. The 53-year-old former national team player, professional and four-time Finnish champion himself has been a model of movement since his childhood.

“At the time, of course, there was a lot of movement, because there were hardly any other stimuli. Football has been in the big part since we were little. ”

“We have always been encouraged to move.”

Domestic The example is huge, as parents’ exercise habits carry the child’s exercise activity until middle age, according to the University of Helsinki and the Likes Research Center. research.

“The roots of physical activity can be in the functionality of the childhood family as well as in the possibilities of the activity,” university lecturer, post doc researcher and health psychologist Kaisa Kaseva says.

According to Kaseva, who works at the University of Helsinki, there are, of course, other explanations for the development of movement habits, but the behavior of parents is one of the relevant factors.

Amanda Rantanen also emphasizes the importance of home, parents and siblings. Atmosphere of twins and a good sister of just over two years Isabellan has been encouraging and present at times.

Rami Rantanen recalls that the family enjoyed skiing, ice skating and downhill skiing, among other things. Amanda Rantanen adds cycling, walking and doing things together. Both mention athletics.

“Getting around has always been such a nice way to spend time with family. I am most grateful to the mother and father in the world for allowing and supporting different sports, ”says Amanda Rantanen.

It is no coincidence that Rantanen’s twins found football as their sport. Also the mother of the family Anne-Maria Weckström-Rantanen has played football at the Finnish Championships.

“Getting around has always been a nice way to spend time with family.”

Amanda Rantanen made it through the national team debut against Scotland in December 2020, shot by goalkeeper Lee Alexanderia and got the ball in his face from the fight. Eventually, the ball bounced off Rantanen’s face to the Scottish goal. Rantanen’s hit was the only goal of the match.

The child identification or identification with the pattern provided by the parents is still only one factor in the transmission of exercise habits across generations.

“It is also possible that children in sports families are financially and instrumentally supported: for example, buying hockey equipment, taking care of training and competition costs and transporting them to hobbies,” says Kaseva.

Rami Rantanen thanks his wife for her great work in front of the children’s hobbies. Rantanen’s career continued a few years after the twins were born, and the children became attached to the sport as they watched their father’s games.

Getting to the field after the games has been in the minds of Amanda Rantanen as “a really wonderful and important moment”. And as the sport took Rami’s father around the country, the children of the family sang in the back seat of the car on their way to guest games.

The fireworks seen after a game are also a strong memory in the mind of the Helmar striker.

“I was a bit like I said I was afraid of those fireworks to get to the field with my dad. And then Dad came to pick me up, ”Amanda Rantanen says and laughs.

“It is also possible that children in sports families are financially and instrumentally supported.”

Parent The importance of psychological support in the development of a sports lifestyle cannot be underestimated.

“Examples and In addition to instrumental support, psychological control of emotions and situations or practicing control with a parent can also become important, ”says Kaisa Kaseva.

Rami Rantanen started football at the age of five in the PK-35 piece series. His family was living in Pihlajamäki, Helsinki, near the field where the club still operates today.

“The joy and joy of futis and working as a team was the most important thing. There was a good hustle and bustle in the PK’s internal piece set. That’s where those games started, and the spark comes from there, ”he recalls.

The same spark has later passed on to his children. The eldest of them, Isabella, does not play football herself, but moves and works out a lot. Amanda Rantanen also encourages everyone to exercise.

“Exercise has always been really important to me. It’s given me my best friends and taught me to be a better person, and I think I feel better about it, ”he says.

“Almost my best experiences in life are through sports. It doesn’t have to be such a big deal [kuin minulle]but it’s worth a try because it has so many benefits. ”

“The joy and joy of futis and working as a team was the most important thing.”

Amanda Rantanen wants to be part of the Helmari European Championship team this summer. Picture of the April World Cup qualifier against Georgia.

In Sweden the striker, who has played since August last year, also emphasizes the importance of versatility in hobbies.

“It doesn’t have to be together in any way [lajiin] to invest. Experiment with as many different species as you ever want and think about what could be good for yourself. ”

The goals of Amanda Rantanen this season are to develop into a better football player every day, to play as much as possible and to help the team win the games.
