“Monster Hunter Wilds is so good it doesn’t seem real.” This is how we titled our preview of the new iteration of Capcom’s hunting game series that we published yesterday. A title that might perhaps seem exaggerated and too optimistic. But you know what? I’ll add more, exaggerating in turn: we’ve only seen a fraction of what it has to offer, and yet Monster Hunter Wilds it already seems to have what it takes to become one of the candidates for next year’s Game of the Year.
Moreover, also by reading the previews of colleagues from international newspapers and influencers invited by Capcom all opinions are extremely enthusiastic and it is difficult to find any outline of criticism or truly concrete concerns. In short, the common feeling is that this time too the Japanese company has hit the mark, creating what it is in all respects the perfect evolution of the serieswhich takes the solid foundations of the last chapters (yes apparently there is a lot from World, but also a pinch of Rise), adding new dynamics and elements at the same time strengthening what already worked previously.
Many small pieces of a large mosaic
So we have an even more alive and vibrant world, as well as central to the gaming experience, with weather variations that profoundly change the conditions of the environments, the behavior of small and large monsters, now equipped with even more realistic routines and interactions, and consequently making each hunt potentially unpredictable in their own way . The combat, then, once again seems to be the flagship of the production: deep, multifaceted and complex to master, but this time Capcom seems to have found the right solution to make everything more digestible even for those approaching the series for the first time thanks to the Precision mode. We then have new moves for each weapon category, the tactical possibilities offered by the Seirket (our steed) and the promise of a seamless experience, lightened by all those dead moments that occurred between the end of a hunt and the start of the next. All accompanied by a powerful visual presentation and a technical sector that already seems very solid.
And… I could continue if I wanted, but I might as well refer you to our preview of Monster Hunter Wilds for more details. Furthermore, if you are passionate about the series I suggest you don’t stop at ours. In fact, reading the various articles online it appears clear that each of the presentations carried out by Capcom in Los Angeles was unique in its own way, thanks to the numerous variables that make each hunting session unpredictable, showing off some little gem that perhaps other editor was not lucky enough to see.
Just to give an example, it was shown in some presentations the Camouflage Cloak and the return of the mount with mid-air attacks, in others we have seen new and old revised attacks that allow you to move freely during execution, situational stealth strikes, bomb-bombs that can be rolled like a bowling ball, NPCs that they actively help the hunter in battle and much more.
And in all of this we only saw one setting and a handful of monsters. In short, Capcom still has a lot to tell us and show us from now until next year, with the next appointment set for Gamescom in Cologne at the end of August, but the overall feelings seem very, very positive. And what are your thoughts on the next chapter of the series?
