Guatemala City.- The emergency and civil protection bodies of Guatemala started this Monday “preventive” evacuation of one of the communities located in the foothills of the Fire volcano, same that began to present strong activity during the weekend.
The National Coordination for Disaster Reduction (Conred) explained to the national media that the evacuation took place in the town of Panimaché 1, located in the municipality of San Pedro Yepocapa in the department of Chimaltenango, about 60 kilometers west of the city of Guatemala.
The state agency explained that about 150 people were evacuatedwho were transferred to shelters in the department of Escuintla, located in the south of the country.

Evacuees will be housed specifically in the municipal hall of the town of Santa Lucía Cotzumalguapa and also in other facilities always located in Escuintla.
The Fuego volcano recorded a Strombolian eruption in the early hours of Monday that has caused an avalanche of lava, between moderate and strong.
The eruptions became stronger hours later and that is why the evacuation of the town was determined.
The volcano is located in the center of Guatemalabetween the departments of Escuintla, Chimaltenango and Sacatepéquez.
According to the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) of Guatemala, the 3,763-meter-high colossus became active over the weekend.
On Sunday, the eruption was effusive and in the last hours it became strombolian with seismic and acoustic records, an increase in rumbles from moderate to strong and sounds similar to the locomotive constantly, the same source warned.

The Fuego volcano is constantly active and had its last major eruption on June 3, 2018, causing the death or disappearance of 431 people.
