European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell arrived in Kiev yesterday on a visit aimed at emphasizing the European Union's “steadfast support” for Ukraine as the crisis approaches its third year.
Borrell said in a post on the social media platform “X”: “I am here to discuss with our Ukrainian friends the European Union’s firm support for Ukraine – on the military side, on the financial side through the new facility for Ukraine, as well as on the EU reform path.”
In this context, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said yesterday that the military and political change expected soon will not have an impact on Kiev’s relations with its Western allies.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is considering a “reset” that includes replacing a number of senior officials beyond the military sector. There is strong speculation that the Ukrainian army commander will be dismissed.
“I do not think that any changes in the government can affect our relations with our partners,” Coleba said in a joint press conference in Kiev with his Portuguese counterpart.
He added that Zelensky has the constitutional authority to dismiss the army commander if he sees a benefit from doing so.
He added that any change would not be a sign of divisions in the Ukrainian war effort.
