10 stadiums are needed and at least one facility with 60 thousand seats, another with 50 thousand, four with 40 thousand and three with 30 thousand seats. Decisive moment to exploit the NRR which allocates 700 million for this type of work. The deadline for submitting the communication of interest is next 23 March
There is not much time left. A little less than four months. March 23, 2022 is the deadline for “communications of interest” relating to the organization of the 2028 European Football Championship. Italy thinks about it, federal president Gabriele Gravina confirmed this last week in the Capitol, but as he said several times the undersecretary for sport Valentina Vezzali, “if Italy is a candidate, it is a candidate to win”.
The combination to open the right formula to bring the show home is called stadiums, multiple stadiums, multiple stadiums. Our organizational reliability, also underlined by the successful Euro 2020 operation with the four Olimpico matches, is not enough. It takes implants to the height. 10 are needed according to Uefa requirements. At least one of 60 thousand, another of 50 thousand, four of 40 thousand and three of 30 thousand. But capacities lead us astray because they are not what the Italian dossier would lack.
Stages factor
–
Rather the ability to “heal” worn out stages that are not in line with international standards. Even the Milan project, for 2028, the goal of the new San Siro is certainly realistic, it is not enough. Of course, putting us near the Olimpico in Rome, the Allianz Stadium in Turin used for the Nations League, the “Franchi” in Florence which could exploit the funds of the “Strategic plan for great cultural attractors” and working on a restructuring of the Maradona in Naples and on the progress of the Bologna project, an already interesting package would be reached. A photograph that could also include the Flaminio stadium in Rome, now in a dilapidated condition but which could also have the requisites to draw resources from the other Pnrr fund (which allocates 700 million for this kind of works). Yesterday, on this front there was also a meeting between the mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando and the president of the Lega I open Francesco Ghirelli on the possibility of investing in the “Barbera” stadium. It remains to be seen, however, whether this map will give encouraging evidence. Otherwise, applying to try, hitting the wall of England, Russia, or the various multinational cartels (the Scandinavian and the Balkan ones), would not make sense.
Ten thousand seats

In the meantime, however, to encourage the cause here is the study on the economic effects of the Italian phase of the European 2028 by the University “La Sapienza” and by the study center of the Federcalcio. A research that has as its focus the poker of games hosted by Rome after a painful approach path in the middle of the Covid storm that had put the green light to the minimum capacity of 25 percent at risk until the last, then ensured by the strategy of ” calculated risk ”announced last April by Mario Draghi. The four games, in a whole European are 51, generated 25.8 million euros for tourism in the city of Rome divided between hotels (13.1 million), restaurants (6.9), shopping (4.9) , transport (0.9). Despite the numerous anti-Covid restrictions, 33,000 foreign tourists arrived in Rome and 59.2 of the 55,795 tickets sold were purchased abroad. Particularly significant is the estimated 9,762 annual jobs generated by the event, albeit in a reduced format. The event was seen by 5.23 billion spectators, of which 115.5 in Italy, through 137 broadcasters in 229 countries. The increase for Lazio’s GDP was calculated at 168 million euros, 0.08. To complete the speech the 36 million more revenues for the FIGC of which 28.25 for the victory of Mancini’s national team.
French former

In key 2028, however, we are also interested in projecting these figures into an era, hopefully, completely out of the pandemic. It has been calculated that the 25 million generated by the four games would have been between 80 and 100 in the case of an event without limitations (starting with 100 per 100 of the capacity). Also interesting is the figure for France 2016, the latest edition in full swing, which had an economic impact for the host country of 1.2 billion, 552 for the organization of the actual tournament and 628 for induced tourism. In short, stadiums permitting, due to the characteristics and timing of the event, the European Championship looks like a bargain and it is no coincidence that there is a certain ferment among the federations and there are many proposals for the candidacy. Rome, among other things, has already earned the right to host two European Championships, that of swimming scheduled in 2022, and that of athletics in 2024. These numbers, 2024, naturally make us think of the greatest of wasted opportunities, that of renounces the race for the Olympics. But that’s another story.
