Through a new statement, the European Union revealed that they have begun an investigation against Meta, with the aim of determining whether it has failed to comply with its obligations to protect minors who use Facebook and Instagram.

The European Union has indicated that the promotion of recommendation algorithms could lead to serious physical and mental health problems.
The research on Instagram and Facebook will not be limited to studying the possible addictive effects on minors. The European Commission will also analyze whether Meta has complied with the requirements of the DSA to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content. With this, the organization will conduct a search to see if Meta violated articles 28, 34 and 35 of the Digital Services Law.
In the event of any violation being found, Meta could receive fines of up to 6% of its global annual turnover.
