Christian Eriksen has granted an interview for the BBC in which he recalled the cardiac arrest he suffered in the last European Championship and that caused him to fear for his life. Fortunately after that episode, the Dane feels like a footballer again and will set foot on the pitch again with Brentford.
Speaking to the British network, Eriksen recalls how the event was: “I remember everything, except five minutes. I remember the throw-in, the ball that hit me in the knee and I don’t know what happened afterwards. I woke up with a lot of people around mine and pressure on my chest, trying to catch my breath. I didn’t understand what was going on.”
“I started to think if I had broken my legs, my back. I was trying to move everything to understand what was going on. Then in the ambulance I heard someone say, ‘How long has he been out?’ and another said ‘five minutes.’ It was the first time I heard that I had left,” added the footballer.
Eriksen had to have a defibrillator implanted, which although it prevented him from continuing at Inter due to Calcio regulations, it is not an impediment to his continuing to enjoy football.
“I don’t see any risk. I have an ICD, if something happens to me I know I can be safe. I don’t see any reason why I couldn’t get back to my best level, to be honest. It’s been a long recovery and there’s still more to come, but I feel that my return is getting closer and I have the patience to wait for the right moment”.
“It’s going to be very special to be able to go back to a football field and play after seven or eight months. It’s going to be incredible,” Eriksen concluded.
At the moment Eriksen has not made his debut with his new club and coach Thomas Frank has not confirmed when he will play again: “It is something we will constantly talk to him about. What is certain is that he will not play against City. We will take it day by day.” day. He looks good, but we need him to catch up with a few minutes of play in a friendly before we take him out there,” said the coach.
Therefore Eriksen will not play this weekend against Crystal Palace and we will have to wait to see him again on the pitch.
