The announcement of the visit was considered by analysts as a “new era” of relations, especially after the recent visit of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, stressing that it opens up wider horizons in the stability and resolution of crises in the region.
They emphasized that the two countries, with their regional weight, would work to defuse tensions in a region wracked by turmoil for more than a decade.
new era
The Turkish official Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan as saying that he also intends to take some strong steps in terms of relations with the UAE.
Erdogan considered that the agreements signed with the UAE during the Ankara talks last week, will inaugurate a new era in the relations of the two countries.
He continued, “Just as we have taken steps with the UAE, we will take similar steps with all of Egypt and Israel.”
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed visited Ankara last week, where he held talks with Erdogan. On the sidelines of the visit, the UAE and Turkey concluded agreements and memoranda of understanding that included a number of areas that contribute to strengthening cooperation relations and opening new horizons for joint work between Abu Dhabi and Ankara.
Among the agreements was the establishment of a $10 billion Emirati fund to support investments in Turkey.
A new era in relationships
Abdullah Aydogan, a Turkish writer and political analyst, said that Turkish-Emirati relations are an important pillar for the stability of the region, and what is happening is a new shift that opens up wider horizons for a broader partnership.
Aydogan added, in statements to “Sky News Arabia”, that Turkey’s return to its Arab surroundings will positively affect the economy, as the UAE is Turkey’s largest trade ally and the consolidation of relations contributes to increasing investments and strengthening the two countries’ economies.
He explained that the warm reception of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the conclusion of agreements between the two sides reflect a new era of relations and that the lean years have ended between the two sides.
He pointed out that, prior to Erdogan’s visit, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, as well as intelligence chief Hakan Fidan, will visit the UAE.
Turkey is restoring its policies
Karam Saeed, an expert on Turkish affairs at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, said that Erdogan’s statements are inseparable from two important matters. The first is Ankara’s endeavor to restore its foreign policies and reform its orientations towards the region, especially since its policies adopted during the past years had negative repercussions on Turkey’s reality.
Saeed added, in statements to “Sky News Arabia”, that the second matter comes after an important visit by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Ankara, which added a lot to Turkey on the economic level after agreeing on an investment fund of $10 billion.
He explained that Turkey is currently seeking to consolidate its foreign policies with the countries of the region, not only with the UAE, but also with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Israel, which the Turkish president emphasized in his speech, stressing that “there are similar and more powerful steps that will be taken in the coming period.”
He referred to the exploratory talks that took place between Egypt and Turkey, which made great strides in relations between the two countries after an 8-year rupture.
He explained that the scene in Turkey has become different and Erdogan’s administration is in need of re-employing relations and making major changes to save the collapsing economy, as well as improving relations with Israel to calm and ease American pressure in several major files.
