Erdogan and Guterres ready to meet Zelensky in Lviv
A trilateral meeting in Lviv between the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskythe Turkish Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the secretary general UN Antonio Guterres was scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 18th August. This was announced by the spokesman of the United Nations, Stèphane Dujarric. “At the invitation of President Zelensky, the secretary general will be in Lviv on Thursday to participate in a trilateral meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Ukrainian leader – he said, specifying that Guterres will later go to Odessa and then in Turkey.
Meanwhile, the French president Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The leaders in particular discussed the situation of the Ukrainian nuclear plant Zaporizhzhya. The interview lasted one hour and twenty minutes, the Elysée reported without providing further details. The Ministry of Defense accused the Ukrainian armed forces of having carried out some artillery attacks in the surroundings of Zaporizhzhya with the risk of hitting the nuclear plant.
Russian forces have taken control of Zaporizhzhya since February 28th. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europeoperational since December 1984 with the first of the six reactors (the sixth came into operation from October 1995).
