This Sunday, June 2, Mexico is preparing to carry out the largest election day in the country’s history, marking a critical point in its democratic trajectory.
The National Electoral Institute (INE) has organized a process in which nearly 98 million voters will participate, who will have the task of choosing among more than 20 thousand political positions throughout the national territory.
Candidates for the Presidency and main positions at stake:
The presidential race features three main candidates who will seek to lead the nation in the period 2024-2030:
– Claudia Sheinbaumrepresentative of the Let’s Keep Making History coalition (Morena, PT, PVEM).
– Xochitl Galvezcandidate for Fuerza y Corazón por México (PAN, PRI, PRD).
– Jorge Álvarez Máynezfrom Citizen Movement.
In addition to the presidency, voters will decide on a wide range of positions:
–Senate of the Republic: Renewal of 128 senatorial offices to be in charge of legislation and analysis of law initiatives.
– Chamber of Deputies: 500 federal deputies will be renewed, divided into 300 by relative majority and 200 by proportional representation, for a period of three years.
– City Councils and Mayors’ Offices: Renewal in the 16 mayoralties of Mexico City and in local chambers of the 31 federal entities, except Coahuila.
