Eidos Montreal is the latest in a long list of development studios hit by Embracer Group's staff cuts. The company confirmed that they were firing 97 peopleafter rumors emerged in this regard yesterday thanks to a Bloomberg report, which also states that the new Deus Ex has been cancelled.
The announcement came via a press release published on X | Twitter, where Eidos explains that the layoffs are due to the global economic context, the difficulties of the videogame sector and the restructuring currently underway at Embracer Group.

Deux Ex appears to have been canceled in favor of a new IP
As reported on our pages, the staff cuts had been announced by Bloomberg, who in his report also spoke of the cancellation of a new game in the popular Deus Ex series, in development for at least two years, with the aim of entering the alive of production in 2024. The portal's sources say that Eidos Montreal will now focus its efforts in one new original IPstill shrouded in mystery.
As mentioned at the beginning, the layoffs for the Canadian studio are part of the restructuring maneuver underway at Embracer Group, which in recent months has also led to staff cuts at Gearbox, 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks, just to name a few.
In reality we are seeing similar maneuvers almost everywhere in the panorama, with a negative trend of mass layoffs that began last year and which unfortunately seems destined to continue, if not even intensify in 2024. Since the beginning of the year, in fact, over 5,500 workers in the sector have lost their jobs.
