Edu Galán: Karla Sofia

The films, art, do not let themselves tame in endless galas – although it seems it and live on them. That is why it should not be surprised that Karla Sofia Gascón entered the pools not because of her superb interpretation in ‘Emilia Pérez’ but for the convenience of giving a prize to a trans actress. And neither should it surprise that they take it out of the race for unfortunate tweets of a while ago.

We live in a world of blacks and blacks: the greatest excesses of the ‘mine’ can be forgiven without blinking when minutiae of the ‘no mine’ are interpreted in the manner of the worst capital sins. Here those who do not like Karla Sofía Gascón can even agree with their racist tweets but a tremendous likes arises to see her sink. And those who like Karla Sofia will not agree with their tweets but refuse to accept their supposed severity.

Neither the one, nor the other. In Hollywood hypocrisy it seems logical that they take away as quickly as when they put you. The annoying: Mark for life a superb actress with very debatable opinions of years ago. We return to our cantinela of the last decade: contradictions and human errors should not end such amazing careers as that of Gascón. I was not nominated for the best tweet of the year, or the best person of 2020 and 2021 – moment of the tweets.

We are so involved in certain dynamics that it already does not matter: another ‘famous’ to the wall and look for the next. It doesn’t matter so, at least, we must congratulate ourselves with the nominated films: none – except, perhaps, ‘wicked’— gives embarrassment of others. The 2022 Oscar will not be repeated to that horror entitled ‘Coda’.
